3. How Do You Inspire Values In Your Educational Program?

One commonality I noted that the schools had was an overriding emphasis and integration of values into the curriculum. They not only “talked the talk” of the importance of values in the educational program, but they also “walked the walk.”
Punahou formed their own
* To support and enhance student development in social responsibility;
* To promote the connections between service, spirituality and character education;
* To develop interdependence and a sense of community;
* To create meaningful links between service and the curriculum; and
* To meet community needs and take an active role in Punahou's vision of a private school serving a public purpose.
They not only felt that they wanted their students to be better people and citizens, but they also took the next step and invested in this vision by developing a center to coordinate the efforts and developed a sequential project-based curriculum from K to 12 to allow students to demonstrate the values in a learning experience.
